two beings, one name

ふたつの kosame

My cat is called 小雨 — kosame, light rain. She is a Norwegian Forest Cat, born in April of 2017, and she sleeps next to the studio monitor. The name was given without irony — from the day we first met, when she was still a kitten, her eyes already held the moisture of a light rain.

I am a composer. Someone who builds the kind of musical structure that can be written on a five-line staff. That was the centre of my work. But over the years, I have accumulated a quieter outer practice — a few audio plugins, a browser piece or two, a small piano of generative experiments. None of these belong to the score. They belong elsewhere.

I have given them — and the sound around them — the cat's name. kosame is what I sign work that sits outside the score. Plug-ins, browser pieces, generative sound, the things notation can't quite reach.

Two beings, one name. The cat keeps the studio company. The work tries to do the same.
